About this site

mono-nono.com is a site dedicated to considering the full implications of the Microsoft-Novell deal and related technologies, especially mono and Moonlight.

The main focus is to be a central repository for an examination of mono / Moonlight apologetics. The questionable quality of pro-mono arguments and defense is what originally turned me from apathy to opposition of the mono project under its current conditions.

I hope to add interesting, short commentary in the blog section and expand the site in the future if there is demand. I welcome guest posts, contributions, and your suggestion on how to improve the site.

Welcome!

About your host

I’m just one dude doing this in my spare time. I am a GNU/Linux user and FLOSS developer, albeit a very very small one on my own small projects.

Full Disclosure: I do not like Novell’s collaboration with Microsoft and I see it as a self-serving betrayal of the FLOSS community. I see mono and Moonlight as weapons wielded by Microsoft against FLOSS with Novell and mono apologists as cats-paws with varying degrees of awareness of the role they are playing. So, you know where I am coming from going into this thing.

I do not think every mono developer / user  is evil or amoral.

I am not a zealot or purist. I use some proprietary software. I use some binary drivers. I buy some commercial games. I shower and do not have a beard.

Personal attacks and accusations of FUD are pet peeves of mine.  Listen closely: a reasoned argument, no matter how much you might disagree, is not FUD. It’s just an argument you take issue with. Attack the argu-ment, not the argue-er.
