Everyone’s favorite mono apologist Jo Shields has blogged on the Microsoft announcement.
Oh and hi to the Ubuntu Forums! I see you peeking in here! I will steal a quote from saulgoode in that thread:
Frederick Douglass
Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are people who want crops without ploughing the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning; they want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. The struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be both. But it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand; it never has and it never will.
He hits it square on. If what is started today with the Community Promise makes mono safe, that is a good thing. It would be small and petty to deny it, but it would be likewise small and petty to pretend it would have happened without a poopload of pressure, either.

I do know how to spell Mr Douglass’ name (honest, it was a typo).

Ha! I didn’t. My shame is now complete.
